Milton Glaser, designer of โ€˜I โ™ฅโ€Š NYโ€™ logo, dead at 91

Milton Glaser, creator of the iconic โ€œI โ™ฅโ€Š NYโ€ logo โ€” and a Manhattan graphic designer who revolutionized the visuals of advertising in the 1960s and โ€™70s โ€” died on Friday on his 91st birthday, according to reports.

The cause of death was a stroke, his wife of more than 50 years, Shirley, told The New York Times.

While his local claim to fame was the graphically catchy, and emoji-prescient, New York logo โ€” imparting the message โ€œI Love New Yorkโ€ using just three letters and a heart โ€” the Bronx native was a prolific designer.

His noteworthy designs include a psychedelic, 1967 poster of Bob Dylan.

Glaser only closed up shop on his Kips Bay offices โ€” a 10,000 square-foot Beaux-Arts townhouse where he helped found New York Magazine โ€” in April of last year.

โ€œArt is Workโ€ was etched on the glass transom over its front door, The Post noted at the time.

In later years, he and Shirley split their time between Manhattan and Woodstock.

โ€œAt this point in our lives, we do virtually nothing,โ€ he told The Post in 2017.

โ€œWe have a beautiful house in Woodstock [NY]. Itโ€™s the alternation of those experiences that matter.

โ€œAfter weโ€™ve been in Woodstock a week or two, we think of NYC as a vacation. The ability to choose your energy level and environment, and feeling you have that choice, makes it delightful.

โ€œAt a certain point, you find you want to spend most of your time alone โ€” in this case, with your wife โ€” doing modest things and not going more than six or eight blocks from where you live.โ€
